Pilot training FAQs

Why should I choose FLY. at Goodyear?

  • We've been successfully training pilots in the west valley for over 9 years.
  • We have an excellent record of successful passes, because we are take care to ensure you are well versed and ready to take your checkride before sending you out.
  • We are careful in the selection of our instructors so you get great instruction no matter who is flying with you.
  • We have some of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, instruction costs in the whole Phoenix valley.
  • The owner is a commercial pilot with many thousands of hours, and an FAA examiner, so he knows what you need to pass.
  • We're away from the bustle and congestion of some of the east valley schools, so you can spend your time learning, rather than just looking for other aircraft.

How much does it cost to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate?

For everyone it's different. However, the average cost is around $8,500. This includes your flight time, plus ground school, exams and medical expenses.

What do I need to start my training?

Only a few basics as we provide most of what you'll need. An aviation headset (you'll really benefit getting a pair with noise cancelling even though these are more expensive), an E6B flight computer, and a kneeboard. We can guide you in your choice of these. And you need a desire to enjoy yourself. Learning to fly can sometimes be stressful, but, at the heart of it, it's a lot of fun!

Can I fly every day?

Absolutey! We fly 7 days a week and at times to fit in with your schedule. As your training will include a minimum of 3 hours night flying, allow for some of your training to be early in the morning or later in the evening.

What aircraft will I learn in?

We operate 2 Cessna 172-S aircraft. They're great student aircraft that have gentle flight characteristics, and are an excellent introduction to the joys of flying.

Do you train for Commercial certificates or Instrument ratings?

Yes. We regularly have students (they're really private pilots at that stage) going through our Commercial Certificate course. Many also complete their CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) rating as part of that, and go on to work for us.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Check or credit/debit card.
